Grammy Winner, John Lennon

Congratulations to the 2019 Grammy Award winners! For the seven years the Beatles were together – from 1963 to 1970 – they won four Grammy’s. They won 3 more after they disbanded, and they were nominated 23 times.

Their first win in 1965 was for Best New Artist (Yes! Indeed!) and Best Performance by a Vocal Group for “A Hard Day’s Night.” They were nominated for Best Contemporary Rock & Roll Performance for “Help” in 1966 but were bested by the Mamas and the Papas for “Monday, Monday.” Their next win was for “Michelle” as Song of the Year in 1967. No one was surprised when Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club band was the winner of Album of the Year and Best Contemporary Album in 1968. Their last years together as a group saw nominations (but no wins) for “Hey Jude” and “Let it Be” as Records of the Year, and “Abbey Road” as album of the year.

The Beatles won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording in 2014. Finally! We know now in no uncertain terms, they changed the world of rock & roll!

In 1981, John Lennon won a solo Grammy for Album of the Year for his seventh and final studio album, “Double Fantasy.” He released the album with Yoko Ono just a few weeks before his death. All these decades later, his whisper of “good night Sean, see you in the morning” in “Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)” still tugs on the heart strings.

Love is the Answer!  Happy Valentine’s Day!
