Blew Me Away
As a self-proclaimed Beatleoligst, I approached this book with some trepidation. Would it be a simple ‘John’s back, Beatles reunion yeah!’ and would it treat him with the respect he earned during his lifetime? The simple answer is that it blew me away.
The premise is that John amazingly reappears 40 years later on the anniversary of his death which is 2020. The story is a fantasy and should be read with that in mind. It takes you forward and backward in time over a 40 year period until John is finally allowed to pass away of natural causes.
What the authors have done was take the essence of John’s personality, mainly from the first ‘bed-in’ to his ‘lost weekend’, roughly 1968 to 1973 when he (and Yoko) devoted all their energies to the peace movement, which they did unashamedly. This John comes back sans ego or the drive to get back to the ‘big time’. He does not know how he came back and doesn’t question it. He goes right to work contacting the largest corporation Goopplezon (figure it out), Richard Branson and even Donald Trump with the sole purpose of making the world a better place. He greatly succeeds in very interesting ways.
With John being gone for 40 years the authors are able to show the world as it is now, often cruel and intolerable, and let John’s amazement of how we really haven’t overcome famine, war, etc.. highlight how little progress has been made. That is the real takeaway from this book. We should all to look at how we treat others and work toward forgiveness and understanding regardless of nationality, sex, status or anything else that segregates us. We are all the same.
They do touch on many things Beatle. Very clever sentences use song titles as if they were part of the lexicon. A Beatles reunion does happen with Paul and all the Beatles musical children on stage but is not a big part of the story.
The book is very easy reading (I read it in 4 sessions). The authors brilliantly paint a picture of every scene in beautiful detail, enough so that you can paint a picture in your mind as if you were there. The scene that made the biggest impact on me was when John was again faced with his murderer in the future, this time with a very different outcome.
To sum up, this book is really an inspiring tale of what someone with a pure heart can do, cleverly wrapped into a figure that has made an enormous impact on millions of lives. If you love John as I, and many still do, you can see how he would be making the same effort had he lived. It should also inspire you to look at things differently and see that change starts with each of us. I can’t wait for the movie.

I [discovered] Saint John Lennon by Daniel Hartwell at the Chicago 2017 Beatles Fest. I believe everyone will enjoy reading this well-written story of John Lennon coming back to this world, which is much different than he left it. I found it warm and fuzzy that he would get to know his sons better and that his love for Yoko was still strong. Since John time travels in the book and appears at significantly important world events, the book brought to me an awareness of the sensitive social and political climate of the world right now. The story is interesting and was a fun read and I would welcome this book to be made a movie. John does a lot of cool things in this book and I certainly would welcome a Saint George Harrison book.

Saint John Lennon, is a book that I couldn’t put down. Not normally a fan of fiction literature, this book took me in and had me feel that anything had the possibility of being true.
